Action movies: Meet the three best chases in film history

When it comes to action movies, car chases are one of the most thrilling and spectacular elements that can be seen on screen. From classics like Bullitt (1968) to more recent films like Mad Max: Fury Road (2015), or Ronin (2008) directed by John Frankenheimer with Robert De Niro, there are many films that offer thrilling car chase scenes. We’ve selected three of the best chases in cinema, each with their own style and thrills, which are striking for their thrills and the stuntman’s mastery of the wheel.

Baby Driver (2017)

Baby Driver is an action film directed by Edgar Wright and starring Ansel Elgort, Lily James, Jon Hamm and Jamie Foxx. The film follows a young getaway driver named Baby, who after completing his latest assignment, intends to get away from the world of crime and start a new life. However, his plans are interrupted when he is forced to pull off one last heist to save the woman he loves.

The chase in Baby Driver is undoubtedly one of the best in cinema. The sequence is choreographed to music and is a work of art in itself. The car used by Baby in this chase is a Subaru Impreza WRX, a vehicle that is capable of extremely high speeds. The chase takes place on the streets of Atlanta and features a frenetic and exciting pace that keeps the viewer on the edge of their seat.

Drive (2011)

Drive is an action-drama film directed by Nicolas Winding Refn and starring Ryan Gosling, Carey Mulligan, Bryan Cranston and Albert Brooks. The film follows a lonely and mysterious driver who works as a stuntman in Hollywood by day and as a getaway driver for criminals by night. Everything changes when he falls in love with his neighbour and becomes involved in a dangerous game of survival.

The chase in Drive is more subtle than in Baby Driver, but no less exciting. The car used in this film is a prepared Chevrolet Impala that has been modified for high speeds and manoeuvrability. The chase takes place on the streets of Los Angeles and is a duel of skills between Ryan Gosling’s character and the police. The sequence is impressive and shows the absolute dominance of Gosling’s character behind the wheel.

The Bourne Supremacy (2004)

The Bourne Supremacy is an action film directed by Paul Greengrass and starring Matt Damon, Franka Potente and Joan Allen. The film follows former CIA agent Jason Bourne, who finds himself in Europe trying to escape from those who want him dead. The chase in this film takes place in Moscow and shows Bourne trying to escape from the police in a GAZ 3110 Volga taxi.
